Contrary to what some people are being lead to believe

The Digital Voice (D Star, DMR, Fusion) modes can be used as per the UK VHF bandplan on the normal voice frequencies these are now designated as FM/DV but for Simplex use only.

The DV calling frequency is 144.6125

So on the basis of this maybe its now time to encourage the use of some of these modes for simplex purposes.

Everybody complains about noise on HF and white noise on VHF/UHF for weaker FM signals, the digital modes do not suffer this problem and as long as no packet loss occurs the audio is recovered perfectly even if the signal is only s1 the audio will be recovered with no noise.

Many radio's being sold nowadays whether they are mobiles, portables or shack in a box's have some form of digital mode and people make the assumption that they are only for repeater use or internet linking this is simply not the case, yes they can be and it is another facet to the hobby but using them simplex can be very interesting.

The DMR radio's in particular can be bought cheaply and make excellent handhelds and if used out portable they cannot only provide rock solid recovered audio (when used in digital), but also have improved battery life on the back of the pulsed dutycycle on TX,  hence saving battery power, not only that lower transmit power can be used because of the efficency of the digital signals. An example of this is when the analogue TV broadcast was switched off the Digital one that replaced it actually used lower power to provide a similar footprint of coverage.
