Interested in radio from an early age, my parents got me a crystal set for Christmas sometime around the late 50s early 60s (I used to hide under the bedclothes at night, listening to radio Luxembourg and the BBC light service)  as a teenager I played around with old valve recievers, and intercoms for a few years, then marrige, children, morgage, bills, working all the hours came along, ten years went by,  then I got on to legal FM CB from around 1982, and in 1983-84 bought a FRG7 receiver from the Amateur radio exchange in Ealing, Martin Lynch worked there, before he was famous !!

First licenced in 1985 as G1PBZ, then in Sept 1986 passed the old 12wpm Morse test at the Harlow rally, and obtained my current callsign.

Spent a year or two on 2m, had an ICOM 290D multimode, antenna was a secondhand 5 element jaybeam, I bought a FT101ZD for HF, and a half size G5RV, also put up a long wire, plus a couple of verticals for 10m,15m,17m.

Trying to get back in to CW, enjoying using the mode on all bands. I have two straight keys, a Japenese HI-MOUND HK-708, used on the FT897, and one of those lovely old CZECH ARMY keys for the FT950.

MAIN STATION EQUIPMENT: YAESU FT-950, Antenna is an 8040HFA End fed wire, with an 80m trap (by G0JMI)  around 10m high. Used on all bands / modes ( It will tune from 160m-6m)  (Also for 6m I have a Moonraker halo in the attic) My other radio is  a YAESU FT-897 + LDG AT-897 PLUS tuner, used mostly on digimodes and CW. I  have a 2m / 70cm vertical also in the attic, plus a dual band Alton beam also by G0JMI on a rotator for 2m/70cms. (4ele / 6 ele)

MOBILE / PORTABLE EQUIPMENT :   Radio - ALINCO DX70TH -HF+6m.  11 MOBILE WHIPS COVERING 160m to 2m. VEHICLE MOUNT IS A WATSON TRI-MAG. 7 WHIPS ARE HUSTLER, 2 ARE AMPRO (160m / 80m) 6m ANT is WATSON HELICAL, AND 2m is MOONRAKER. I ALSO HAVE A 5 ELEMENT ZL SPECIAL (MOONRAKER) 2m BEAM, AND A SECOND 6m HALO FOR MY PORTABLE OPERATIONS. (WAB CONTESTS)  I also have a Quansheng 2m/70cm handy.

I ALSO HAVE A SOTABEAM 3 BAND  (20M / 40M / 80M) LINK DIPOLE PLUS A 7m  TELESCOPIC POLE and LI-PO BATTERY FOR PORTABLE HF WORK.

MOST OF MY SHACK ACTIVITY IS ON  CW / JT65 / JT9 / JT10 and sometimes SSB. BUT I ALSO LIKE : PSK / RTTY. POWER IS NORMALLY BETWEEN 5w - 30w. But QRP is what I prefer!  I  TAKE PART IN THE RSGB UKACs, EVERY MONTH ON 2m / 70cms and 6m, for FRARS my local radio club.

On Digimodes software is HRD+DM780 v5.24.0.38 with an SB-2000 interface. PC is Compaq CQ 58 notebook. Running windows 10.        (On JT65 / JT9 / JT10 I use JTDX v 17 .8) I AM ALSO ON THE W.A.B. NETS MOST DAYS (40m) WHEN BAND CONDITIONS / TIME ALLOWS ? I ALSO LIKE TO GO OUT MOBILE / PORTABLE AND ACTIVATE SQUARES / NATS / TRIGPOINTS. LIVED IN AND AROUND ST.ALBANS HERTS, MOST OF MY LIFE, TOOK EARLY RETIREMENT IN MARCH 2009,, MOVED TO POOLE IN NOVEMBER 2012. (As of 15/10/16, chasing SOTAs as well)
