The name here is Peter...and I was born back in the mists of time, namely 1936, so I just don't quite remember King George V. This year [2017] was the big 81!...or so my Birth Certificate maintains, but thankfully I don't feel anywhere near that age.

Interest in radio began back in my schooldays, where our Chemistry master, usually known as "Bodger Timbrell" had racks of radio gear in his study,

[probably not quite as old as this!!]

....which is where I first  spoke into a microphone. He had a small group of "followers" who learned Morse together, [in school time!] and some of us paid some visits to the Radio Club in Stourbridge. Over the years, interest waxed annd waned, but from time to time you could have seen a SW receiver taking up space on my desk.

Eventually came C.B. [if I dare mention it here!], to which I was introduced when taxi driving. This was great fun at the time, but then I made a decision to go for a "proper" licence, working my way though loads and loads of questions in odd moments over about 18 months, without any outside help, as I didn't know any other radio enthusiats. The result was G7ATR in 1988 and G0KYX about 12 months later.

I spent 6 years in Cardiff as a student, [1957-63] and after a great deal of slog, ended up with a BSc. in Chemistry and Pure Maths and a B.D in Christian Doctrine and New Testament Greek.

Over the years, I have worked as an Industrial Chemist, a Baptist Minister, a Science Teacher in a Special School [where we had a Radio Club and a number of pupils passed their Foundation exam.] an evening Taxi Driver ][in order to feed the xyl and the ankle-biters!] and eventually a C of E Presbyter/Priest...of the Evangelical variety. [some of these overlapped.] At present I am Associate Minister of the little Evangelical  Free Church in the village of Lindfield.

The radio gear at the moment consists of  an Icom 7300, an Elad FDM Duo  and a Kenwood 590S,  [plus Elecraft KPA Amp.] and a Motorola 4600 for DMR-Phoenix.  DV4mini is up and running, allowing use of DMR+, Fusion and D Star, there being no usable Digital Repeaters except for GB7NS for DMR-Phoenix.

The antenna is a Western HF 10...highest point approx, 9m....set up in a Z configuration in a 4m. by 9m. garden, so not very effective, especially on 80m. where the Welbrook Loop doesn't help at all on Rx, but is useful on other bands.

Although at the moment I don't belong to a local club, I am a member  of...UKSMG 2113...WACRAL 768 ...GQRP 12046 ...30MDG 2314...Feld Hell FH 1673 etc.

Jean and I were married back in 1963 but sadly the she is now in a Care Home....we have 3 children, 5+2 grandchildren...but I have very little hair.

Like most people there is a variety of interests such as  playing golf, photography, water colour painting, oil painting,[ even though I was always bottom of the class at Art in school days....and I've no doubt it shows!], reading, learning Welsh with "saysomethinginwelsh.com." ...and even on certain occasions Amateur Radio operations!! ...and I still preach!!

....a simple painting of a Sunset in Winter, which is now on our daughter's Dining Room wall [my one and only commission!]...

...and some snowy mountains...[at present in my wife's Care Home room.]

If this isn't sacrilige on QRZ, I also occasionally use Hamsphere, although not smitten with it, and also have CQ100!

This page is still a work in progress!!...23/9/2017
