Hello and thanks for looking up my call on QRZ. I have been licensed since 1960 and retired for some 20 years. Most of my career was spent at BBC Engineering Research Department in Surrey and BBC Transmitter Group in London. However in 1983 I joined Mercury Communications, the then new UK entity of Cable & Wireless, as Satellite Systems Manager and then later Transmission Manager.

My amateur radio interest has been mainly HF transmitter construction and propagation, although I do have 6 metre, 2 metre and 70 cm capability. These days my equipment is mainly Icom, comprising an IC-7400 driving an IC-2KL 500 Watt solid state linear (when needed) and an IC-AT500 auto ATU.Also use an IC-475H mono-band rig on 70cms. For the past 5 years I have held an NOV to operate on 472 kHz using home brew equipment.

Antennas are a 160 metre Carolina Windom, a 6/2/70 co-linear and an HQ-1 Minibeam for 20/15/10/6, plus 2 metre Yagi for SSB (see photo)

I am Lead Instructor at my local Radio Club and keeper of GB7MH (D-Star) and GB3MH, see http://www.ashdownforestrg.org

My other pastime is sailing, and up until 2005 we owned a 10 metre yacht equipped with an Icom-706 and insulated back-stay antenna for maritime mobile. Very nice to have on board and made many new Ham friends while cruising Dutch, French, Portuguese and Mediterranean waters. With most of our adventuring complete we have now downsized to a 7.9m metre boat, mainly for the Solent and the occasional trip to the West Country,so far /MM not fitted.
