I got my Class A licence in 1969 at aged 14, when I was living in Fareham, Hampshire.  I immediately became interested in 160m DX, as there were several local Top Band DXers, including G3SED and G3SZA (now AA0RS).

I studied Electronic Communications at Salford University, and later moved to Portsmouth. I also became a Broadcaster, and continue to work as a presenter in Commercial Radio, as well as running my own Production company, Wessex Radio Productions.

In 1989 I moved to Newcastle upon Tyne, and apart from 3 years back down south in Dorchester I have remained in the North East, as it's a great part of the country.
This is my current QTH:

Over the years I have continued to be interested in 160m DX, mainly using the same old equipment I have had for years - Yaesu FT101E transceiver and Yaesu FL2000B linear. However I recently decided to get something a little more modern, and after a lot of research chose a Kenwood TS930S. So here is the shack as it is now:

My main antenna for 160m has nearly always been a horizontal half-wave dipole - having regularly worked countries in every continent all over the world, it's certainly a myth that you need a Vertical to work DX on Top Band! (I must admit I stopped counting after 100 countries, but must be over 200)

For mobile, I have a 2m rig installed in my Toyota Supra - a Kenwood TM231E and 5/8 wave antenna.

And I recently started operating 160m mobile again, with a Kenwood TS50S
and a base-loaded whip on my Ford Fiesta.

Here's a picture of my daughters, and another one of me
