Thank you for looking up my callsign.  My name is Alastair, but  I sometimes use the name Al for short to make things easier.  My QTH is in Marske-by-sea in North Yorkshire.

I gained my first amateur license when I was working in The Netherlands in 1977 with the call sign PD0EHO.  This was a novice license which permitted me to use 6 frequencies on 2 meters FM with 10 watts only.  My second call PE1CNT was a Dutch class C license allowing me all frequencies from and above 144 MHz and all modes and was broadly equivalent to the UK G8XXX callsigns at that time.  Living in an apartment block near Rotterdam, I was unable to have an antenna in the clear but did very well working many local, Belgian and UK stations using an J-Beam 8 element quad with 10 watts.

After this and on return to UK, I obtained a reciprocal UK license which gave me my first UK call sign G8PHI, equivalent class to my Dutch class C license.  I was successful with my morse exam at Cullercoats Marine Radio Station in Northumberland and was yhen granted my class A license with the call G4NUO.

My station included a Kenwood TS700S for all modes on 2 meters and with a transverter I worked 70 cm also.  I used a Kenwood TS530S for HF and still have both rigs.

I closed my station in 1984 but re-established it in 2015.  Most of the time, I am now using an Icom IC 7300 with a multiband dipole about 7 meters above ground.  (Alpha Delta DX-CC).  For HF, I still own and operate the Kenwood TS530S with accessories which I will will never part with!  I am also active on VHF / UHF D-star with a IC 7100 and on DMR using a MD 380 handheld.

My other interests are guitar, (acoustic and electric), and ukelele.  I also build all my own amplifiers.  At this time I am using clones of a Vox AC-30 top boost, (to the original schematics), a Marshall "Bluesbreaker" using the original schematic with KT66 tubes and a Fender Deluxe (5E3).  I try to keep at least the electronics original, but unfortunately; cabinet making is not a personal skill I don't have as it requires precision wood-working!

As well as skiing, I am also passionate about steam railways and real beer which somehow seem to fit together well!

In my professional career I was a marine and engineering surveyor for a large international ship classification society, mainly involved in construction of new oil and gas platforms for UK sector of the North Sea.  After 35 years I retired in 2014 and re-established my radio station.

Sorry, but I do not collect or send paper QSLs.  I went though all that years ago and found little value in it.  I will gladly QSL electronically or by email if you need it.

73s and good DX!

Alastair
