I have been interested in all types of radios from my early teen years; in 1983 I passed the Radio Amateurs examination and acquired the call G6ZVF.

Although I did enjoy VHF operation for a while, I started to learn Morse and took my 12 WPM test at Trusthorpe on May 1 1984 and then acquired my present call G4XRO.

Over the years I have had many interesting contacts.

The first radio I owned was a Sommerkamp FT480 which is still working well.
The next was an HF radio which was the triple valve Yaesu FT102, then after a few years I changed it for a Yaesu FT1000MP.

I took an interest in QRP using a Yaesu FT817.

The newest addition is the Icom-7000 using the AH-4 tuner and an inverted L in my loft.
I use a Diamond V-2000 for VHF, UHF and 6 meters (although the inverted L works fine on 6 meters)

I also use a Yaesu VX-7R if I go out walking or away on holiday.

Unfortunately I have never been able to get any decent antennas out at my home QTH so mostly I have used verticals or wire.
