Main Occupation: 14 years GPO Telephones ST (Senior Tech) [medically retired 1976 due to an accident 3 years previous] long period of sickness when surgery 'went wrong' trying to get help for my accident, 12 years learning to walk again ! - then 8 years Self Employed Pauper (Computers and a Recording Studio).

What's the gear these days ? The 'big stuff' has gone, come in simplicity!

HF main rig is a little Yaesu 840 with a Yaesu MD200 bench mike, a Icom 2820 for DStar operating and a Icom 207 for VHF/UHF operating. Also have DStar in the motor with a RASPi, DVMega and pocket Wifi, 100mw will allow me to talk to operators all over the world from my car via the internet without any noise or horrible QSB, awesome!

And the rest of the shack?  gone is all the 'big stuff' and now apart from the aforementioned stuff it's simply a HF Amplifier (Home Brew) a pair of 4CX250B's  15 watts in provides 400+ watts out, awesome and a 1.5 KW ATU.

The Antenna's ?

HF Antenna is a home brewed 160/80/40m trapped dipole at 40' with HB (home brewed) wound traps (not coaxial). Main interest 160m when I sometimes use a HB 160m Vertical Aerial, interested ?? have a look at http://petlyn.co.uk/vertical/index.html - it's a 'cracker'.

Other Interests.  MUSIC

Started early in life playing the violin (1947) but as it was now the 50/60's thought it a bit "sissy" to play the violin so I took up the Clarinet and Tenor Saxophone and played in many bands and a group called Alby & the Sorrals playing alongside the Beatles, the Searchers, Gerry and the Pacemakers, the Undertakers and many other groups on the Cavern Liverpool and many other venues, what day's they were!! ask me for pics. Sadly all this came to an end as the Tax Man, a Mr Inland Revenue, wanted his share of my hard earned money and I had to sell my saxes, car and house (yes my house) or face imprisonment AND pay the VERY LARGE fine too, UGH!

Nowadays play the violin in Chester Philharmonic Orchestra, Wrexham Symphony Orchestra, the Cambrian Orchestra and Chester Chamber Orchestra, check out Google for a recent or forthcoming concert. Love to exchange "notes" with any ham musician.

I have been asked by many interested stations have I been involved with any interesting music events, the answer is, I certainly have, recently I was a session player for the ITV filming and Channel 3 showing of "Cilla" with Sheridan Smith (what a girl), and what a tiring time too but being paid for playing in the filming it was well worth it. I was a studio session player on Cilla's original recordings so it was a great honour to be asked to play for this filming.

Recently an orchestra I play in the "Wrexham Symphony Orchestra", performed at the wonderful Manchester Bridgewater Hall the home of the Halle Orchestra, what a wonderful experience it was too when we played Mahler 2. The orchestra membership 85 players and the choir 120 strong with two soloists.

That's all folks!

I look forward to a natter on air or any comments on this page positive or negative.

73 & 88's where applicable !!
