The beacon on 144.430 MHz is located at the BT radio station at Fairseat in Kent, 10 kms South of Gravesend and 2 kms North East of Wrotham village. The site is 205 metres ASL on the North Downs.

GB3VHF was brought into service in 1960 from a site at Wrotham and has been relocated and operational from Fairseat since April 2010.

The beacon provides, together with its sister beacon GB3UHF, a facility to directly compare signals at VHF and UHF simultaneously. The GB3VHF 2m beacon has a very similar keying pattern to the GB3UHF 70cms beacon and also uses the same type and directions of antennas, and a similar E.R.P. Thus the beacon will provide a very useful propagation indicator.

The beacon antennas are two 3 element yagis beaming 288 & 348 degrees which provide coverage of all of Britain and Ireland. The beacon sends CW using A1A keying on the odd minute and JT65B on the even minute. On the odd minute +30s the beacon sends phase reversals. Both the beacon frequency and timing of the ID are GPS controlled.
