Built by Sir Cuthbert Quilter between 1873 and 1893, Bawdsey Manor   became the centre for the UK’s radar development programme after Watson-Watt’s successful demonstration of the principles at Daventry in 1935 http://www.andrewphotographic.co.uk/g8gmu9a.htm .

Although development was moved away when WWII broke out, it remained an operational station within the Chain Home system until the 1950’s and continued as an RAF base until 1990. The site was known in those days as Bawdsey Research Station (BRS)

Currently it is an International School - http://www.skola.co.uk/English_courses_Bawdsey.html

The site also includes the Radar Trust Museum http://www.bawdseyradar.org.uk/

In 2010 it will be activated to commemorate the Daventry Experiment (GB75BRS 26 – 28 Feb) and again to mark the start and end of the Battle of Britain (GB70BRS 5/6 June and Sept) - http://bawdseyresearchstation.org.uk/index.html
