THANK-YOU FOR VISITING MY QRZ PROFILE

SEE BELOW FOR QSL PROCEDURE

PLEASE CONSIDER A SMALL DONATION TO MY CHARITY WORK IN MYANMAR (BURMA)

From my own teacher's salary, I donate school text-books, Burmese/English story-books, wall posters, dictionaries, alphabet writing practice books, educational software and computer equipment to orphanages and poor government schools.

I currently support more than 1,500 young students in 10 orphanages and monastic schools

Myanmar students are very keen to learn to speak English, because this skill will help them to get a job or go to college.  Although English is taught in schools, most students are very weak at speaking English, because there are so few foreign teachers in Myanmar.  My charity efforts are to help as many young students as possible (and their local teachers) to practice and improve their spoken English. (I am not a Christian missionary - I help all students, regardless of their religion).

I very much appreciate any donation that the ham radio community can make.  Without donations, I cannot perform my charitable work, which means that I cannot remain living in Myanmar and operating my ham radio station here.

  • 20 cents buys an alphabet writing practice book for kindergarten students
  • $1 USD buys a Burmese/English story-book for elementary students
  • $3 USD buys a 300-page Science/Math/English text-book for high school students
  • $10 USD buys a bluetooth loudspeaker for small-class English practice
  • $50 USD buys an MP3 player and loudspeaker system for large-class English practice

If you would like to make a small Paypal donation to help my efforts, my Paypal address is : simon@TeacherSimon.org

Please mention your callsign or club/organisation when you send a donation!

  • 100% of  donations received by individuals or clubs/organizations will be used for school equipment/supplies (the 'admin' costs that I incur for travel, petrol, hotel, food etc are paid out of my own salary).  None of your donation will be used to pay for any ham radio equipment.

ALL donations are voluntary – there is no expectation that you donate just because you made a QSO.

Please visit my charity web-pages, where there is news and photos about my recent activities:

I welcome sponsorship/regular donations from clubs/organisations who want to support my charity work

QSL PROCEDURE:

  • I try to upload my QSOs regulary to LOTW (A donation to my charity may hasten that upload hihi!)
  • Currently, I only upload my logs to LOTW, and not to eQSL, QRZ.com or Clublog
  • I do not need your QSL cards, either sent direct or via your bureau
  • There is no QSL bureau in Myanmar - so I cannot receive nor send QSL cards out via a bureau
  • If you want to receive a hard-copy QSL card for your QSO with me, please visit my OQRS page here
  • I post my QSL cards about every 3 months, when I visit Bangkok (Thailand) and send using Thailand Post
  • I welcome QSL reports from short wave listeners (SWL). Please visit my OQRS page here

RADIO EQUIPMENT:

I currently use an Icom IC-718 with a 33 feet, homebrew vertical antenna.  I will soon purchase a Cobweb antenna for 300 metres and up.  For 160-80-60-40, I intend to construct fan dipoles.

FREQUENCIES:

  • I am licenced to use all IARU Region 3 bands, including the 60 metre band WRC-15 allocation
  • On 40 meters, I am only authorised to transmit in the range 7,000 - 7,100 KHz (because there is a local Myanmar Radio broadcast transmitter operating on 7,200 KHz). Therefore, I will use all modes within the 7,000 - 7,100 KHz range, and may use wide-split when operating SSB mode (transmit between 7,000 - 7,100 KHz, receive above 7,125 KHz), to enable US radio amateurs to contact me within their bandplan restrictions.

MODES AND OPERATING:

  • I use FT-8, JT-65, PSK, RTTY, SSB, SSTV, Hellschreiber and maybe other digital modes
  • I use SSB, but currently do not use CW
  • When using FT-8, please do not transmit on my frequency! Spread out on the waterfall and my software (and my eyes) will see your signal and callsign. I do not operate ''robot" style, but will Search & Pounce, or select a call to reply to.  So you do not have to be the strongest signal on the waterfall to get a QSO!
