Nazario Sauro is an Italian Navy submarine belonging to the first series of Class Sauro, delivered to the Navy 12 February 1980.The boat takes its name from Lieutenant Nazario Sauro, a gold medal for military valor, patriot and member of Italy irredentism of the first world war.The boat, layed on 1 May 2002, was moored at the Navy base of La Spezia together with the mate unit, Fecia di Cossato where it was, from 2008, the subject of restoration works for the transformation into a museum, on behalf of Mu.MA, Sea and Navigation Museum in Genoa, by Fincantieri, the same company that built it in the late seventies (at that time named Italcantieri).At dawn of September 18, 2009 the Nazario Sauro has left Arsenal to accomplish his last mission: towed by tugs, reached the ancient port of Genoa on September 26 where was moored in the docks in front of Galata - Sea Museum.Under the architect Roberto Bajano’s supervision and project , is the first ship-museum in Italy visible in the water.The opening has taken place on May 29, 2010.

In occasione del Museum Ships Weekend Event 2016, manifestazione radiantistica sponsorizzata dal “Battleship New Jersey Amateur Radio Station – NJ2BB” dove si incontreranno in etere moltissime Navi e Sommergibili musealizzati di tutto il mondo. L'A.R.I (Associazione Radioamatori Italiani) sezione di Genova in collaborazione con "Galata Museo del Mare"sarà attiva con una stazione radio, dal sommergibile Nazario Sauro, utilizzando all’occasione un nominativo speciale “II1NS”, con referenza ARMI MI971.A ricordo dell’evento, e per tutti coloro che collegheranno la stazione II1NS, sarà inviata una QSL speciale con riproduzione del battello.
During the Museum Ships Weekend Event 2016, amateur radio event sponsored by the "Battleship New Jersey Amateur Radio Station - NJ2BB" where many worldwide ships and submarines transformed into museums will meet in ether, the ARI (Italian Radio Amateur Association) section of Genoa in cooperation with "Galata Museo del Mare"will operate a radio station inside the submarine Nazario Sauro, using for the occasion a special call "II1NS", with reference ARMI MI971.
To commemorate the event, and for those working the station II1NS,a special QSL card with reproduction of the boat will be sent.
