I had been active from Longyearbyen on Spitsbergen Island / Svalbard from 10  to 15 April 2015.

Longyearbyen is the capital city of Spitsbergen (78°13'N - 15°38'E). The town was established by and named after John Longyear, whose Arctic coal company started coal mining operations in 1906. It is the world's northernmost settlement of any kind with greater than 1,000 permanent residents.

Spitsbergen (IOTA EU 026) is the largest island of Svalbard archipel.

The ground in Svalbard is permafrost, which means the soil is permanently frozen year round. In Longyearbyen the permafrost ranges from 10 to 40 meters deep, with an active layer that melts each summer as the temperatures rise above freezing. The slilts, or piles, keep the building away from the active layer to prevent flooding and sinking!

The activity took place from JW5E radio club on HF bands. The equipement is :

- Yaesu FT-1000MP Mk V

- Optibeam antenna from 10 to 20 m at 35 meters up and vertical, sloper, wire antennas.

In 5 days, I made 3 800 contacts in 115 countries.

The log had been uploaded on LOTW and on Clublog :
