This is my QSL today. During the late summer of 2011 I took this shot of a firey Kansas Sunset with my trusty Nikon D7000. I used a 300 mm lens to capture this image. The tree line in the foreground is more than a 1/3 of a mile away.

This was my QSL card when I first moved back to the farm I grew up on after retiring from a 22+ years career in the U. S. Coast Guard.

During the summer of 2011 when I decided to get back on the air and prepare to retire from my second career, I purchased a DX Enginnering 43-foot vertical antenna. With the great ears on the FTdx5000D I worked more than 25 countries in a couple of months. Here's the business end of the vertical.

And, a shot showing the entire antenna.

In late November that year I decided to order a SteppIR DB18 beam. Two elements on 40 meters, a dipole on 30 meters, 3 elements on 20 through 10 meters and 4 elements on 6 meters. It came via UPS on my 70th birthday just before Christmas. I built it in the basement, spending about an hour and a half an evening after work for the first two weeks of the new year. On the 14th we raised it to the 44-foot level.

The next weekend I had a blast testing it during the North American SSB contest. Several weeks later I made 68 contacts in the EPC WW PSK63 contest. This antenna is an amazing demonstration of precision engineering and was a pleasure to build. I am as non-mechanically inclined as you can get and had no trouble at all assembling it. I checked it with my antenna analyzer and the SWR is les that 1.1 on just about every band. And, the signal reports have been fantastic.

I presently host viewer videos and photos in the Show Me Your Shack segment of Ham Nation every other week on TWIT.TV/hn.

Hope to work you on the air soon. I QSL via LOTW, eQSL and direct. Here is my bio info:
