I was first licensed as WV6PFY in January 1961 when I was 12 years old.  Subsequent calls included WA6PFY, WA1KBP, WB2LTW and WA6TCH -- which I held while I was working for the old Henry Radio in Los Angeles in the mid-1970's.  I was working as a radio disc jockey / chief engineer at a kilowatt A.M. daytimer, WCAT, Orange, Massachusetts, in 1977 when extra class licensees were allowed to pick their call signs, which explains why I picked K1DJ.

I retired from U.S. government service in January 2015, and became active in ham radio again!  I operate mostly CW on 80 through 10 meters from a small Cape Cod-style house about 100 meters from the Atlantic Ocean -- somewhat closer during Nor'easter storms, when the tides are extra-high and the waves crash over the sea wall at the end of the street.

I am running 100 watts with my new K3S into an inverted vee on 80 meters and a SteppIR 3-element beam (about 13 meters/40 feet above ground) on 20 through 10 meters, which includes a rotary dipole on 30 and 40 meters.

My putting up the tower and beam in November 2016 caused a bit of excitement in my little seaside neighborhood.  After years of avoiding "social media," I finally signed up for Facebook and responded to unfortunately negative comments from a backyard neighbor.  Happily, my response brought overwhelming support for me and for ham radio!  [You may find the posts by searching for my call on Facebook.]

Within the past couple of years, I have finally worked all states for WAS (Mixed and CW) and enough countries to qualify for DXCC (so far Mixed, CW, 20 meters, and 15 meters).  I still have many ATNO DX stations to work, and also enjoy contesting, including the weekly CWT contests.  Your QSLs via LOTW or direct are much appreciated!

Thanks for the QSO's and for reading this!
