Hi, thanks for stopping by. My handle is WOODY. I've been enjoying Ham Radio for over 57 years. The thrill of a QSO now is just the same as my first CW QSO back in January 1960 when I was 14 years old! Over the years I have had the following call signs:

  • KN1NCH January 1960 Novice ticket that required a 5 wpm CW test
  • K1NCH August 1960 upgrade to General ticket that required a 13 wpm CW test
  • 1967 upgrade to Extra Class ticket that required a 20 wpm CW test
  • K1LB 1977 upgrade to my present two letter call

I served at the US Army Air Defense School, Ft. Bliss (ElPaso), TX from

1967 to 1969 as a NIKE AN/FPS-75 Alternate Battery Acq. RADAR Instructor, part

of the Army Air Defense Command (ARADCOM), and then worked mostly in private

sector electronics from 1969 to 2012. I am now retired and enjoying ham radio.

My main interests are HF and SOTA on CW mode.

  • Shack equipment: Flex 6400M (delivery Nov'17) w/ Butternut vertical & EFHW antenna
  • SOTA equipment: Elecraft KX2/ATU w/ Iambic key & EFHW antenna

Other hobbies include restoring vintage radios, hiking, camping, and skiing.

I'm married with two daughters and five grandchildren.

While you are here let me show you around ...
