Retired Reliability engineer in the fields of SATCOM, Ethernet Switching, Fault-Tolerant Computers. Interests in availability, performance and Markov modeling, statistics, accelerated testing and simulation as related to reliability and quality engineering.

First licensed in 1962. K1YOW is an original call. Grid: FN42fk.

Active on 80m-2m, on FT8, JT65, JT9, PSK31, RTTY, CW and SSB.  Computer now is a HP tower, quad core i5 CPUs, 12 GB RAM, two 500 GB HDs, WiFi, etc.  Running Windows 10 and Ubuntu LINUX.  Main digital software is fldigi for digital rag chew modes (PSK, RTTY, MFSK, Hell, etc) and WSJT-X for the JT modes.  The JT modes like FT8 JT65 and JT9 look real interesting from a propagation point of view.  One can see a lot of QSOs in the passband and who is talking to who and where various paths and modes are open to.  The JT modes also work very well for gray line propagation.

Simple antennas: 7 band off center fed dipole and 2m Big Wheel.  Put up a VHF/UHF LP Yagi on July 30 2017 and I am doing more using MSK144 for meteor scatter and FT8 for sporadic E on 6M and 10M.

Interested in propagation, astronomy, auroras, bird watching, dogs, hiking, folk guitar (Martin D-18, D-35, D-15M) and pellet rifle shooting.

RIG: Kenwood TS-590SG, 100W (30-45W on PSK and JT modes), 80m-6m and a IC-746-PRO on 2 meters and the backup HF rig.

QSLs are OK direct, via bureau and/or eQSL and QRZ.COM.  Don't use LOTW (use paper log).  Just old fashoned.  I have all my paper logs sine first licensed in 1962.
