I was first licensed in high school in 1964. At that time, the novice license was issued for one-year only … you up-graded or you were out. I didn’t, so I was!! Part-time jobs, cars, college, and marriage consumed the next several years. I never lost interest in Ham Radio though, and in 1976, after moving to NJ, I met Mark R. and we discovered that we both had a similar Ham radio history. As a result we studied together and earned our licenses, Mark  was WB2OFG (now K1SRE), and I earned the call WA2OFI. We subsequently and quickly moved from Novice, through Technician, to General and finally (in 1989), Amateur Advanced. Mark and I remain close friends and share many interests.

My adult life has been spent in the service of kids! I taught middle and high school science for nearly thirty-four years. In 2008, I earned my doctorate and in 2010, after retiring from public education, I began my second career as an assistant professor of education where I helped to train the next generation of classroom professionals. In August of 2017 I retired once again and now do a little writing, some volunteering and when I'm not on the boat fishing, you'll find me on the air!

My primary amateur radio interests are chasing DX (~160 confirmed), QRP/SSB, 2m SSB, and mobile FM operation.

Home QTH antennas include: Zero-5 43' Vertical, right at the edge of Barnegat Bay. Coming in the Summer: T.G.M. MQ 26 beam on a Glen Martin Roof tower at ~35'.

Primary HF/VHF station: For HF, I use aTen-Tec Omni VII, TT 709 Mic, Elecraft KPA-500 amp, LDG 1000 ProII tuner. An ICOM IC-910H is used for V/UHF work.

QRP station consists of: Ten-Tec Argonaut 509, 405 amp (to complete the set), Ten-Tec 215 Mic., and 251M power supply with 12V battery back-up.

Mobile Station resides in an ML 350: Yaesu FT-7900 V/Uhf FM mobile.

Grab n’ Go: I’ve assembled an emergency deployment station consisting of an Icom IC-7000, LDG IT-100 tuner, Jetstream PS, w/battery back-up, and BuddiPole antenna.
