As a teenager I was a fan of Heathkit. I think I started with an alarm clock, then a FM stereo and amplifier, a power supply, HW-8 QRP rig, and finally a H-89 computer. I passed the Novice written but, at the time, could not master the 5 wpm code test.
My interest in Ham radio was put to a halt when I went away to college. Now, in my late-50's I have finally taken the hobby up again.  I got my Techcian ticket in May of 2009.  I moved on to General a month later.  I became an Amateur Extra in July 2009.
My main interest is HF digital modes - JT65-HF and PSK31 in particular. I also like to chase the FM satellites. My current station, ICOM 718, is modest and I expect it will grow with time. I purchased an AH-4 Tuner and with my open wire fed 135 foot dipole I can now work 10 meter through 80 meter.. I also have a couple of handheld 2 meter radios that I use with my Arrow antenna to chase satellites. Recently I setup software to send email with WinMor to the WinLink 2000 system.
I want to begin CW operations but it is going to take some effort or my part.  Any code I knew seems to be gone now and to be honest that was back in the 1970's. So here I am learning again!
I am a member of the Lainer Amateur Radio Club and active in the Hall County ARES group. Recently, I joined FISTS #17137.
I upload to LoTH weekly,
I am now running an ICOM 7200 for digital modes. I run 5 watts for JT9 and 10 watts for JT65.
Update Oct 2017 -- FT8 is now my most used digital mode.  For a computer I use a Raspberry Pi 3 for all my ham work. Since JT Alert does not work on Linux (at least not without Wine), I work my own utility that provides the needed functions.  I completed some QRP kits and find these projects satisfying.
