As an avid scanner enthusiast I stumbled onto a group of fellows talking in the 2 meter range and after many nights of ease dropping on their round table I started to feel like I personally knew them and wanted to join in on some of the conversations. This got me interested in what Amatuer Radio was all about and how to get a license myself.I got me a study guide from Radio Shack and started studying.I got my Technician license in 1992 while living in Deleon Springs, Florida. Soon after I started meeting Hams and getting interested in the HF portion. So I went back to the books and started listening to code tapes and before long upgraded to General. During the next few years I served as net controller on southcars on 7.251 occasionally on saturday mornings. I also served as net controller on the Before Breakfast Club on saturday mornings on 3.973. I became inactive after going through a divorce and moving into a restricted area. I now live in the foothills of NC and hope to have a decent antenna up soon. I miss all the friends on the BBC and Southcars. My equipment in the profile picture is a Kenwood TS 530s, and a Kenwood TS 440S. Running a g5rv at about 40-45 feet. I ended up selling my radios after being inactive for a couple of years and regretted it for the next 18 years. My dad gave me a Kenwood TS 520s that he no longer used as he only used it to keep in touch with me in Fl. I still have it but need to find someone qualified to work on it. Update 07/13/2013 After 20 years of inactivity we are back on the air. Our equipment is a Kenwood TS 480sat, antenna is a G5RV up about 30 feet running 100 watts tuned through a MFJ-941E Versa Tuner.  I am practicing to get my code skills back up to par as I always loved to code. What an interesting way to hold a conversation. I am studying also to upgrade to Extra Class and hope to do that soon. Still have a lot of work to do on our station but just glad at the moment to be back in the hobbie. 73's to all and hope to catch you on the "Band" wagon sometimes.  Edited again 10/12/14 The profile pic up now is not the equipment I listed. It is my Kenwood TS480sat and my old Kenwood TS520S.
