My friends call me Jim and I will QSL if requested or if a QSL card is received.

I welcome SWL contacts.

Most of my adult life was spent flying, first in the US Navy and then commercially. I am now retired and live on a small mountain ridge in North Georgia, where I have the advantage of a little added height and very little RF noise. No close neighbors to complain about antennas.

I go on many primitive or backcountry camping trips and I always take a radio with me to enjoy HF in the field. I hope to catch you from a park or mountaintop in the future.

Base Station equipment is the Elecraft K3 or the Yaesu FT 1000MP for SSB phone, FT 897 for digital modes.  Antennas consist of a log periodic, a 770 ft loop and a 204 ft G5RV-M.

Portable Station is the KX3 and the FT 817 for QRP operation.  An amplifier is available for QRO when I feel like more power.  Antennas used portable include the G5RV (102 foot) or the G5RV-Jr (51 foot) lately the Buddipole.

I belong to the very active Gateway Amateur Radio Club in Cleveland, GA. Check us out at;

Three of my children are also hams, Cheryl K2TOG, Mike K4YAK and Matt K4SZ. Say hello if you hear any of us on the air.
