Hello! I kind of got into ham radio by accident about a year and a half ago when I found out that I needed to get a ham license (Technician) in order to purchase a certain model of electronic altimeter w/ telemetry. I got my license just for that one reason never intending to actually buy a radio or otherwise participate. Fast-forward 18 months and I've now got my General ticket and on 10-2-2015 obtained my first HF radio - a lightly used Yaesu FT-450D. I guess you could say that I'm now officially hooked!
Antenna-wise, I'm running a G5RV that I won in a raffle at the local HRO here and it's hanging about 35' up as an inverted-V. The last 12 feet or so of one side is bent in a dog-leg to the north in order to not go over my property line. Yeah, it's not the optimum setup but it seems to be doing pretty well so far, all things considered. PICs to come later.
