Recently changed to a lower cw call weight callsign.   Thanks for visiting..

First of all,  Thanks to all who have helped me..   If you are trying to make a contact with me right now on CW please be patient..  I am still learning everday with CW,  It may not be perfect but I will try..  SKCC 15967

With that said:

Rig in service is a Flex-5000a Dual reciever.   Setup is complete and full remote is working.  The one thing I really enjoy is the IF ouput for Skimmer.   Still using the Icom SM-8 mic which is a real gem.  Running Powersdr 2.7.2, and Loaded KE9NS 2.8.X and is very nice.  Still in the learning phase of the software, IC-2kl is online and was quite a learning project not using ALC.  had to build a band voltage board and supply the correct volage to the amp to auto band switch.  Antennas are BigIR Steppir Vertical with 16+radials which is amazing,  covers 6m-40m with highest swr of 1.2 with a R of 46-53.   Just recently added a hidden inverted V in a tree for 40m as a Rx input for the flex.  Using Vac, DDutil, Skimmer, DXlab, with Powersdr has been a big step in the learning curve.   Much Thanks to Steve, Bill, and Ben who are continually helping me learn this great hobby.  I have added screenshots of the software setup for DDutil, VAC, VSPmanager, DXLAB, PowerSDR, and CWskimmer.  I recently added WSJT-X and had JTalert, but a top secret app from my elmer made is in operational state to take places of JTAlert..  New FT8 mode is a real fun one to use and I really believe it is a great new mode..  No more multitasking when making contacts..   Elmer is creating a new app to help determine what countries you need for different modes/bands.  The app automatically logs contacts to DxKeeper so JTAlert is not needed.  Will leave the JTalert config up for reference.    The screenshots Might help you if your having a probem setting up your system.  There is likely config issues and this is only meant to be a starting point to get you online..

Key's that I am using are the Begali Graciella jr,  Begali Signature Paddle, and a Begali Camelback Straight key (Thank You Ben).   All are real nice tools,  I am still learning on the straight key..

My vhf/uhf setup is a IC-821 all mode radio Gifted from my Step Father N5XD..  What an amazing 2m/440 radio... Started learning DMR with a TYT MD-380,  built a hotspot with a DVmega mounted on a Raspberry Pi3,  installed Pi-star and working great.  Mated the DVMega to a Bluestack and hotspot is active in the car using my cell bluetooth as a internet link.    Pretty cool mode but was hard to get my head wrapped around the config of the codeplug.   Thanks to a local Ham Barry who really helped me understand it.    Kudos to you Barry..   Still learning this one,  interesting to have access to the world with a UHF HT.

I will happily return a QSL card from the US, no need to send an evelope or stamp within the USA as I simply put a stamp on my card.  If you send me a Card and would like one returned out of the US you need to add postage..  If you do not send me the postage for out of the country postage,  you will not get one back.

Interesting things I have enjoyed the last year in Ham Radio:    Witnessed a local (Who we will not name) make a 5w ssb contact to JA,  and a CW contact to the South Cook Islands on 100mw.  The Cw contact was very cool to watch on Skimmer.  Helping a new Ham progress thru the hobby is very rewarding.    Also have a new ham in the area who is making digital contacts with a stealth antenna which is really cool to see..  Recently changed my callsign to a 2X1 with a lower CW weight, Prev callsign was K5EDI..    Much appreciate you visiting my page..

God bless, and dont hesitate to e-mail me if you have any questions.

New Key I threw together,  I call it the closepin key..

Software setup using PowerSDR, DDutil, VAC, VSPmanager, DXLab and CWskimmer is a good learning experience if you take it one program at a time.   Note:  Carefull planning of comm ports is required to not get confused.  These are for reference and there are settings that may be incorrect but as I learn i make changes..

WSJT-X   I am using DXLab commander for PTT/rigtalk to PowerSDR, have not had any troubles with timing.

JTAlert     Why would I use JTAlert?   JTalert will automatically log my WSJT-X contacts to DXkeeper for me.  Before I installed this program I would have manually uploaded the WSJT adif (log file) to add my contacts to DXKeeper.. Steve advised me of JTAlert and within 5 minutes It was online.   Very powerfull program that can nitify you of a wanted DX, state, county, etc.

Note:  The UDP port 2237 is needed to communicate with WSJT-X  (settings/reporting page)

Notes on WSJT-X use.

PowerSDR screenshot using FT8,  Note I have an alternate profile for Tx, Rx which I use just for JT65 modes.  I am using 20w most of the time and reports are good for the log.    I use a wide TX filter of 2k for JT65 because I would move around and would have to manually move the Tx filter.    Rx is typically 2Khz unless I am parked on a spot, or I really want a particular station.  in this scenario i would focus in to my Rx only to really bring in the low signal.  This method of Rx is very helpfull when the band has many stations.   I have a alternate Rx Inverted V antenna that i am playing with for 40m Rx which is helping me learn  (using the ESC function)..   Note:  Due to the fact that i have a small back yard, and limited space I use a Vertical with a Crazy Non-Text book style application.  I do not have radials in 360 deg, but rather have 14 radials going in what area i have available..

Various Projects I have put together this year..

Recent Projects:   Elecraft K1 QRP radio (from a Kit). Which was really fun building.  Options include (4 band board 40,30,20,17) ATU, NB.  Got the unbuilt kit from a local ham that purchased it back in 2008 but never put it together.  Still ironing out a few things before getting her on the air.   Sure can fall in love with a radio after you build it..  She has a real good reciever..  Tuner is pretty amazing..

4S-Tuner manual QRP tuner.  Fun kit, but learned that I do not like soldering standard components to surface mount pads.  I like thru hole much better..   Need to go test the tuner and give it some work on the air. Built the tuner before I had the K1 which has a ATU but still good fun in the kit..

K1 qrp setup on Mom's Back porch using an inverted V..

IC-7300 Field Frame  (1/2" copper tubing & fittings.  23$ project).
