I enjoy HF (when possible), VHF/UHF, and am new on D-STAR (on which you can find me most often on reflectors 01C or 35C.)
Originally licensed as KC5GPG on 24 May 1994 in Abilene, Texas. Upgraded to General class (with code) on 19 Feb 2005. Served a term as secretary of the Austin Amateur Radio Club as well as Public Information Officer for the ARRL South Texas Section.
My day job is Chief Meteorologist at KIRO 7 News, the CBS-affiliated television station in Seattle. I previously worked as a meteorologist for WBBH NBC2 in Fort Myers, Florida, and KLTV ABC Channel 7 in Tyler, Texas. I hold the television Seals of Approval from the American Meteorological Society (AMS) and the National Weather Association (NWA).
I got into ham radio originally to be a Skywarn spotter while living in Texas, and enjoyed pursuing storms. I was a moderator of the largest storm chaser online forum, Stormtrack, for several years.
