I operated from KSM/KPH/K6KPH on Saturday, April 24th 2016.  What a great time!  Thanks to Roy WB6OVV and all the volunteers at KSM/K6KPH Point Reyes Station for the great mentoring!

We also found out my Vibroplex wasn't a 1980's bug after all . . . it was made in 1940!

My Inner MacGyver Cootie Pick-Key for SKCC December Weekend Sprintathon
For the SKCC December Weekend Sprintathon, the theme is "Channeling Your Inner MacGyver."  Here's a key I whipped-up this evening using a couple of my banjo finger picks, an eyescrew, some wire, screws, crimp terminals, wood, and solder. Here it is in action:
Since I play Clawhammer style banjo I really don't need the picks for playing so I thought I'd put them to use in the shack.
My 1940's "TAC" (Telegraph Apparatus Company) semi-automatic bug.

My previous callsigns:

  • KA2SGD 1983-1987
  • KE0MZ 1987
  • DA2UI 1988-1991 while stationed with the U.S. Army in Bamberg, Germany
  • NZ0C 1987-2004

I was first licensed in 1983 at the age of 14. My Elmer was Harry, WA2DHD (later ND2P, then after some inactivity he is now KC2THV). My wife Kyle is a ham: KI6FYW.

I'm a member of these fine organizations:

I really enjoy CW but also you will find me on the bands hunting DX, contesting, using digital modes, satellites, and running meteor scatter. I love to explore all aspects of ham radio and so I count myself as a QRPer (I've built the ATS-3B) as well as avid antenna builder and ham software aficianado (hi hi).

In March/April of 2016, the Heard Island DXpedition was active as VK0EK and I am proud to say I was part of the home team, the "Diablo DXers".
