The Eastern Arizona Amateur Radio Society was founded in October of 1974, with the purpose of uniting the Amateurs in Southeastern Arizona and Southwestern New Mexico into a working group that would promote amateur radio in the region.

The approximately 25 charter members were from three counties in Arizona and one county in New Mexico. At the present time, the club has FM repeaters on Heliograph Peak, at Mt. Graham, at an elevation of 10,220 ft on 146.30/90 Mhz [PL 141.3] and 442.825/7.825 Mhz [PL 141.3].

Also on Heliograph Peak, there is a packet radio digipeater on 145.01 Mhz linked to a 440 backbone.

Recently added on Heliograph are the 146.86 & 440.700 repeaters. Hub for the EAARS Network both have a PL of 141.3 Hz There are also EAARS Network machines on

EAARS wasa serious Field Day competitor, view our field day photo's on our website. In 2005 we placed #6 nationally!

The picture here is our 2001 field day site at an elevation of 8,000+ feet atop Mt Graham near Safford, AZ. The bus contains the main operating positions, the tower in the middle is for the 6 and 2 meter stations. The picture is taken looking down from the ridge where the 2 (this year 3) main HF towers reside. After being chased of the mountain for a major fire and having the mountain closed for fire danger, EAARS chose to do a different contest Field Day style.

EAARS now participates in the 7QP Contest as a county line expedition.
