I was first licensed in 1962 - I inherited the "ham radio gene" from my father Willis and his brother John - who were first licensed in Philadelphia in 1933 as station license W3CYN. I am an admitted DX Hound with a DXCC QSL count of 278, all using less than 100 Watts from the Pacific-Northwest USA. I am chasing 5-Band DXCC, needing "only" 23 more on 80M (which is why it remains to be seen if I remain a low power "purist"!)

My main rig is a Kenwood TS-590S that runs 100W to a 3 element triband Cubical Quad up about 38 ft/12 Mtrs on a roof tower. For other bands, the antenna is a full sized G5RV @ 75 ft/25 M. You will find me on 160-10, mostly CW, although I enjoy a bit of rag chewing on SSB and playing with digital modes.

I am a big fan of QRP -  the designated QRP rig at my operating position is a Elecraft KX2. I also have one of KD1JV's "Mountan Top Radios" (Ver 2), an Argonaut 509, Hendricks PFR-3 and an Small Wonder Labs PSK20 . I take at least one of these little rigs with me backpacking and all my other travels. I often use QRP at the home QTH and have achieved QRP DXCC. A few years back I hatched the idea of posting youtube videos to document the fact that DX can be had via QRP, eventually this morphed into a "QRP YouTube DXCC" playlist in which my webcam captured QSOs with 159 entities - ALL while using less than 5 watts (YouTube Links Below) -- I am having as much fun with this as chasing "real" paper..

In addition to hamming, I do occasional volunteer radio work in Central and South America and with my local emcoms orgs. I am also fond SWL'ing and am a confirmed scanner nerd. I realized a lifelong dream by adding a nicely refurbed (Collins Designed) EAC R-390A 82lb receiver to the shack..

I have operated portable HC, XE, PY, DL,I, G, EA,VE and as YN3JG. I currently hold the Ecuadorian call HC1HB. I am happy to QSL via the Bureau, LOTW or Direct, but I do not have an eQSL account.

(Shameless Plug for my friend Jeff Murray, K1NSS: I just had Jeff create an image for my new QSL card - which is at the top of my bio here. If you are interested in a truly one of a kind QSL, check out:   http://www.dashtoons.com/K1NSS_Design.html  )
