Homebrew 5-band cubical quad. 40 Meter Moxon Beam Yaesu FT-2000D & Ameritron AL-811 Amp.

Greetings, My call was formerly WB7OHV  and then  N7OHV.

Presently my working conditions include a Kenwood TS-940 thats more than 25 years old now. It drives an Ameritron AL-811 running about 600 watts to a 2 element 40 meter Moxon beam. A 3-element Quad beamdesignedfor 20,17,15, 12 and 10metersis being redesigned and will be on the 2nd. tower up55 feet.

I became interested in Ham Radio about the age of 12. I had an old shortwave radio and would listen to such exotic stations as HCJB, the BBC, Radio Brazzaville, and Radio Moscow. My friends and I all had wire antenna's in our back yards. I joined the Navy and bought a Trio (now Kenwood) receiver while stationed in Japan, still listening in and hoping one day to learn enough code to get my Novice ticket. I was about 21 years old when that day arrived and my first QSO was with a ham in Iowa. I lived in St. Louis, Mo. at the time. I think I had more RF in the shack than I did in my antenna but it was still exciting. I was now a HAM.

Over the years I've been a WB9, WB6 and held WB7OHV for many years until recently. I've also held a Japanese license - 7J1ADQ which was a lot of fun and very educational towork DX from the other side of the world. The 7J1ADQ call always created a big pileup; mainly from the Russians but it was exciting to easily workAsia and the S. Pacific. I've included a few pictures from those days:

Featured in a Japanese magazine. Getting ready to be body slammed!

I'm retired now after 32 years as a teacher, counselor and principal.

I do have an art business that takes me annually to Africa. I've traveled to Ghana, Togo, S. Africa, Kenya, Ivory Coast, and Burkino Faso. I'm planning another trip to Senegal and Mali...Hmmm, maybe a DXexpedition would be in order?

I like to chase DX but also like to rag chew. Look for me on 40 thru 10 meters.

73. Mike
