Hello, Thanks for looking me up.

A new Chapter in life as of September 15, 2017.

My beautiful wife and I launched our third and last child to University this month, moved from our home in Renton to our home in Yelm WA, near Mt Rainier. Gear is still the same as below but currentlly the only rig out of boxes is the IC-706 and antennas at the moment are inverted vee dipoles for 40 and 80 with an apex at about 60'.

My cherished tree mounted SteppIR is a memory although I am hoping to do the same thing here in Yelm as I have several Fir trees over 130' tall.

My first day back on the air is tonight 9/29/2017 - man I have missed the sound of the radio... CW sounds great again although my fist just proved it needs much practice after being off the air since January 2017.

Look forward to seeing all my friends on the air again!

Other Equipment includes

Exciters: Kenwood TS590SG, Swan 270B, Drake R4C/T4XC for HF, Icom IC706

Antenna: 6 - 40M, SteppIR 3E at 100' (abt 30.8M), 80M Elevated GP

Former Calls: KA7DFQ, N7CGW, NI7R

CWOPS #1441, FISTS #17205

I love ham radio, almost as much as my beautiful wife of 29 years and our three kids 18, 20 & 22 :)   I have been licensed since 1977 at 12 years old.

My main interests have been DXing and some contesting. But I enjoy a great ragchew as well.

I was introduced to the hobby by a great friend, George Hoffman, W7POE who, along with an ex WWII radio man, Merlin 'Walt' Walton, W7ACQ, turned me on to CW, which is by far my favorite mode.

My Renton , WA station, after a 9 year wait, is finally back together. After a substantial negotiation endeavour with the neighborhood beautification committee (aka the xyl), I installed my SteppIR 3 element yagi at the top of God's greatest gift to my station - a 30M Douglas fir tree. Now sitting at 31 meters, on top of the second highest hill in the area (approx.137m asl), this incredible antenna performs really well..

I am very grateful for for all of the support of the team at SteppIR for their patience and assistance in gettting to this point. A special thanks to Adam Blackmer, K7EDX, for his "rescue" of the installation effort in the middle of a work day afternoon. As it was, I ended up still on the "tower" at 8 PM finishing things up with a headlamp.  But without Adam's assistance I'd have never gotten it done as the next day ushered in winter in the Pacifc Northwest bringing 35 mph winds and rain. Thanks Adam!

My first QSO from my own station - A Swan 270B that my dad bought me as an 8th grade graduation present at 14 years old was with a guy who has beome a lifelong friend, John Mertel, WA7IR (K7PU). John introduced me that day to his brother Mike K7IR who has mentored the 2 of us in the hobby and in life ever since, two of the best men I have ever known. One of the highlites of my year is our annual SSPH effort from K7IR in Moses Lake, WA.

Lots of other interests - Life's an adventure! Cycling, Climbing, Fishing, Hunting the wiley elk and birds, waterskiing, snow skiing, Futbol (the real one!)  flying and I hope to take sailing lessons in 2016.

I have an alternate QTH in Yelm, WA where we have our family lake home on Lawrence Lake. Station there consists of a IC706 and an AI7R CCD Dipole for 20M/40M at 65', an Inv Vee for 80M, an Inv L for 160 M and  K9AY loop for low band RX. I am mostly on at night when in Yelm as it is our family vacation home and most of the days are full. Thanks for your time and interest. If we have not already had one, I look forward to a qso some day!
