"Charlevoix the Beautiful Michigan"

                                                         Please QSL LoTW

I was first licensed in 1956 as a fifteen year old. I joined the air force after high school. I spent a year in electronics school and three years at the transmitter site for SAC headquarters in Nebraska. I got my first phone commercial license while in the airforce and spent 25+ years in broadcasting.

I have two children and 4 gradchildren. I had little time for ham radio and lived in areas that were not "ham friendly." My wife died in 1999 and I have down sized my life and live in a condo complex that is not exactly condusive to radio operations.

After the summer residents left this summer, (2012) I put up a 40 meter delta loop antenna. The loop is tuned with a Palstar HF Auto Turner through at DX Engineering 2:1 balun. As of December 2014 I'm using a Flex 6500. The amp is an old AL-80B that I purchased on E-Bay.

I get a lot of questions about the picture at the top of my page. The water at the bottom of the picture is Lake Michigan. A channel (or very short river) leads to th harbor or Round Lake. In most people's opinion the best harbor on the Great Lakes. Charlevoix's small downtown is located right on the harbor. The channel leading out of the harbor into Lake Charlevoix.
