Welcome to K8IT QRZ Mini-Blog

Originally licenced in 1974 as WN2WIM when you had to appear in person at FCC, 201 Varick Street, New York, New York. Amateur Radio has been a great hobby and passion. I have assisted in many events from the New York City Marathon, the Michigan UP200 Dog Sled Race, to I don't remember how many MS150 Bike Tours, to the numerous Skywarn nets and operating at National Weather Whitelake Michigan WX station. From a contest side, I have participated in Feild Days, and several VHF / UHF / EME contests. I have QSL cards for 32 states on 2m SSB plus working torwards completing the 3905 Century Club WAS 1K/2K awards. I have participated in ARES/ RACES as an AEC and am certified by FEMA in multiple training programs. My biggest love however is experimentation and would love to talk about homebrew antenna ideas and other projects. I have presented at Dayton Hamvention and love hamfests.  In the fall of 2005, I ran for ARRL Great Lakes Director and lost. I still beleive we need to do more to promote Amateur Radio.

IN THE GREAT LAKES DIVISION: Incumbent Director James E. "Jim" Weaver, K8JE,
was elected to a second term. By a vote of 3505 to 883, he held off a
challenge from Neil Sablatzky, K8IT. Weaver focused his campaign on having
kept promises he made when he ran three years ago and on acting in accord
with the wishes of his constituents. Among his accomplishments, Weaver
introduced the motion before the ARRL Board of Directors to establish the
ARRL Grassroots Legislative Action Program.

My most recent projects has been the following. Feel free to ask any questions.

1. Built and designed a multi band vertical antenna for 60m, 40m, 20m, 17m, 15m, 12m, 10m that uses one coaxial broadband trap. A true multiband antenna and has been in use for over ten years with great results.

2.  I am currently running a Yaesu DR-1X repeater with Allstar node 41838 and Echolink k8it-L as well as bridging to DSTAR and Wires-X. I have designed the first Allstar Raspberry PI interface to the YAESU DR-1X repeater that allows Auto / Auto mode operation when the node is connected. I call this interface KITLINK and it uses AUTO MODE EMULATION (AME)

3. Now legallly blind but love this hobby and found enjoyment being an Elmer. But we need to have more youth in our ranks!

I currently reside in Kalamazoo, Michigan and can be found searching for DX on 40M SSB.
