I have finished my modest station here in California after being generally off the air since the mid 90's and certainly since leaving Michigan in 2004. Apparently returning just as Cycle 24 gets started was a lucky break. Hopefully this posting will let the old gang back in Michigan know what I've been doing as of March, 2012

The base rig is now the Icom 7600 having retired the 751A after many decades of service. That radio put 324 countries and 198 zones in the log and is in my limited opinion still one of their best. The ACOM 1000 serves as my amp. What a change from the Ameritron.

Restricted by a small lot and only a bit tolerant neighbors the FORCE CS-33 tri-bander covers the basics at 36 feet. Under construction is a FORCE WARC 2/2 for 18 and 24. I would like to do a WAZ on these bands also. An R8 from Cushcraft is serving as a temporary for 18 and 24 but more importantly letting me chase the last zone I need on 40 meters, #22. Many good and bad comments on the R8 circulate and I did have to finish soldering the match network but it plays very well out to about 8,000 miles. It is certainly better for long haul DX than the inverted V I first tried.

Next up is a sloper-vertical (?)for 80 and that will push the boundaries of our little lot---but all I need is zone 26

Currently I am looking for country #332, have the zones noted and 5BDXCC with 175 on 10m, 206 on 15m, 274 on 20m, 152 on 40m and 134 on 80m. My "Wanted List" is short with some hard ones done long ago but I missed things like P5, VP6,E4, KH8,

Update: 40 meters zone 22 done and confirmed, the R8 is down and the front yard looks a lot better without it--and she is happier. A 40 meter inverted "V" is back up for the odd contact. The RIGEXPERT made that a very easy job. Still no idea where to place an 80 antenna. The WARC 2/2 is up at 31 feet---that is a sweet antenna---plays very very well, flat SWR out of the box.

Update January 2013...Zone 26 worked on 80, waiting for the card...all done with 5BWAZ so might as well get started on 12 and 17...all of 3 total confirms there but maybe 150 or so worked. Swapped out the Hy-Gain rotor for a Yaesu 800 and and the excellent GREEN HERON controller---all in all easier, faster, more accurate and I really like the ramp-up---ramp down of the rotor speed. Am not at all an MFJ fan BUT the 1792 vertical with a single counterpoise---no other radials...works very very well on 80----best distance to date +/-10,000 miles---from a city lot--not bad for a couple hundred bucks.

Country count---excuse me--entities confirmed is now 334...all the rest are west/ Pacific from here.
