I became licensed in June 2016, and have become (more than) a little obcessed with amateur radio. I passed my Amateur Extra exam in October 2016, and I'm enjoying the extra elbow room in the bands.   This has become my newest "expensive hobby". (I'm an avid waterfowler and fisherman, and those hobbies don't even come close!)

Since getting my license I have been involved on just about everything from 80m - 70cm (no 160m yet - I'm trying to figure out where I'd stretch out that antenna!).  I've done mostly SSB voice, but I also enjoy JT9, JT65, and PSK31.  I've even ventured in to Foxhunting.  As an Assistant Scoutmaster with a local Boy Scout troop, I've managed to incorporate most of this hobby into Scouting.

My rig is an ICOM 756 Pro II and a hex beam antenna at 28 feet high on a push up mast. I don't have an amplifier... yet!   I'm fortunate that we don't have many covenants in our neighborhood, and antennas don't seem to bother anyone.  I'm sure I'll eventually upgrade to a tower and a few more antennas.

I've installed an ICOM 706 MkIIG mobile rig in my truck.  I've tried hamsticks, Hustler resonators, and an Alpha Moto, but I think I've finally hit paydirt with the Little Tarheel II and with the 56" whip.   I know the larger screwdrivers would get me a bit more efficiency, but I'm not sure I have the time and energy for the mods to get a large enough mount on my truck without removing my camper top.

Some have asked about my callsign. No, I'm not from the 9th call area.  It's a vanity call.  I'm a veterinary ophthalmolgist (animal eye doctor).  Yes, they exist!  K9EYZ sounded too much like "canine eyes" for me to pass up!

I'll QSL with eQSL, LoTW, or Direct.

I'm sure this BIO will get bigger as I spend more time with radio.   Until then, I look forward to meeting you on the air.
