My nickname is Jay.

I earned my Novice and Technician licenses in 1988, operating sporatically between 1988 and 2012. In late 2012 I decided to become more active in the hobby, set up a permanent station, and joined the local ARES group. I passed the General and Extra exams on the same day in early 2013.

I've always been fascinated by the minimalist side of ham radio (QRP, hidden antennas, handhelds, etc.). My station consists of a Yaesu FT-817ND QRP transceiver, a long wire HF antenna, and a Diamond X50A VHF/UHF vertical. For FM satellite work I have a Yaesu FT-60R and an Elk Log-periodic antenna.

Back in the pre-cell phone days, my primary interest in ham radio was using 2M FM to stay in touch with university friends in and around the University of New Hampshire campus.

My other interests include endurance sports (swim, bike, run) and model aviation.
