Originally licensed in about 1977 in New York City during residence there, KA2CNN was active from the start with public service communications. With his wife at the time, KA2DBW, they built a Heathkit HW-2036A, and operated a VHF/HF station primarily for traffic handling in their Chelsea apartment in Manhattan.

With KA2DBW and WB2BNA he founded the Big Apple VHF Traffic Net, which is still on the air today. He has been a participant in many NTS traffic nets. He held the Army MARS callsign AAR2DE for about two years while living in NYC, and handled health and welfare traffic through that service via HF.

He and KA2DBW were members of the go-team for the 1980 Olympic Torch Relay Run communications group, which was supervised by then-WA2DHF (W2ML/SK). An article they wrote about it appeared in 73 Magazine and may be seen at https://goo.gl/photos/MEAMEHKMwqbWJqsi7.

In 1986 he moved with KA2DBW to West Germany, where he operated as DJ0MBL. In late 1988 he moved again, this time to Bedfordshire, England, worked in London, and operated as G0KCU until 1992, when he moved back to the States, to the Boston area.

Dwight became less and less active after leaving the States, and did not really get back into the hobby upon his return. He and KA2DBW divorced in 1995, and Dwight is now partnered to non-hams.

The events of 11 September 2001 were the impetus for KA2CNN to get back into the hobby. He re-equipped and served five days of volunteer work as a communicator on VHF and UHF for the American Red Cross in NYC, two days of which were spent a block away from Ground Zero at a Respite Center where he was responsible for backup communications.

He went off the air again for a few years ending in 2015 May, when he got a quad-band rig installed in his car and set up a home operating position in Berlin MA.

He can be found on the Minuteman (MMRA) repeaters in Metrowest Boston, or on the CMARA 146.97 repeater in Paxton, MA, including the Old Timer's Net (which belies its name by including folks down to 14 years old), and the Central Massachusetts 2M Traffic Net. He works in Newton but only commutes there a couple of days a week. He travels a lot on business, both domestically and overseas.

He recently became active on http://remotehamradio.com/, as he currently lives in a development in which an anteanna farm for HF is impractical.

Dwight is always looking for ways to put the hobby to practical use and usually avoids long self-referential conversations about what kind of rig is being used or the like...

He is father to two amazing kids born in 2002 June, an Internet plumber and Linux system adminstrator with too many decades of experience, and an inactive but aspiring private pilot (PP-ASEL 700h VFR).
