Name is Vinnie from Bellmore, NY living here on long island. I've been an amateur radio operator for 30 years and counting. I spend time on the many bands of amateur radio. My station rig is a Flex 6500 and Maestro using a Gap Titan antenna on an 8ft. mast with stock power. I'm also on Dstar and DMR using a Hytera radio an ICOM 5100 and 51A hand held. You will usually find me on reflector DCS 6A with my buddies here in the US and also from the UK. The Dstar radio's are both operated through a DVMEGA board and a Raspberry Pi computer using the Maryland Dstar image. My portable outdoor fun radio (pictured above) is a Yaesu 857 D. Running about 60 watts into a Buddipole vertical antenna and a battery gobox for voltage. It is a little cumbersome however, it works quite well assuming band conditions are in great shape. When operating at the local park many are amused at this setup. I've had many compliments and even some complaints. The local police department was called up to look at my setup in the park and laughed it off. Some however think I'm in communication with Mars or some other planets in the solar system. To pay for my hobby I work in a local hosptial (or as I call it a hotel because they both begin with the letter "H" and have daily room rates!) as a registered nurse in radiology. Along with my amateur radio hobby I enjoy grooming my 4 legged daughter Sierra a standard brindle poodle and taking pictures with my digital SLR Nikon D810 camera of my grooming mistakes (just kidding). Catch you on the amateur radio bands or DStar radio one day. 73's!
