Amateur Radio - or at least, my version of it.

My name is Jack from Wilmington Delaware (USA).  I'm a dad of 2 children and reside in the Pike Creek area of New Castle County.  I began the hobby as a teen, while scanning for different frequencies with my 1st direct entry scanner radio.  My mom allowed me to install a discone antenna on the roof in our city row home and my hobby took flight from there.  I received my 1st analog 800 mhz scanner radio, then came my 1st 800 mhz analog trunk tracking scanner.  Then my 1st 800 mhz digital trunk tracking scanner.

I enjoyed listening to all sorts of comms, including HAM radio operators with my scanner which inspired me to get my Technician’s License.

Once licensed, I purchased a Yaesu FT-7800 dual band mobile, which I used from home.  I enjoy experimenting with different antenna's to see what I can hear.  I recently purchased my 1st D-Star transceiver, an Icom ID-51a.  I'm currently experimenting with a DVAP to hear and talk to stations worldwide.  I also purchased a DV4mini and picked up a TYT MD380 to experiment with DMR.  I'm awaiting my new SharkRF Openspot, which is on backorder.  See you on the air.
