Feburary 2017: I am attempting to catch up on paper QSLs.  I am now using the Buru for QSLs; both incoming and outgoing.

Wow!  Finally caved in and got the KX3!  What a wonderful little rig!  I worked PJ6Y on 10w as one of my first contacts!

I have been in Amatuer radio since 2011, although I had to take a break for 3 years while in school. I have a lot to learn yet and am very eager to know more about this facinating hobby! I got into HF in the late summer of 2015.

My first base rig was a Kenwood TS-440s which was given to me by the family of a silent key who introduced me to HF on field day in 2011.  He left this rig and set up for me in his will; it took his family and the local club several months to track me down. I only run 100 watts on a multiple band Dipole antenna about 23 feet off the ground; not ideal but it works.  I also have a Yaesu 859 which I use as my mobile rig, Yaesu HT, and multiple Baofeng HTs.  The Kenwood, after many QSOs, finally retired and made room for the Icom 7300. Quite a nice rig!

I enjoy SOTA activation as well as chasing.  I am working on activating the W3/PD area.  W3/PD-002, W3/PR-001, W3/PD-007 and W3/PD-015 are SOTAs that I have activated!

I am learning CW and am really enjoying it.  I am very slow to copy but am trying hard to learn faster! (7.5-8 wpm)(June 2016: 9-10wpm)(Made my goal of 10wpm by July 2016)(Sept 2016: Pushing 12wpm now!)(Nov 2016: 13 wpm)(Jan 2017: near 15wpm)  I like CW more and more every day!!!

I am a member of a Search and Rescue Team (Cumberland County SAR Team 400, Carlisle PA) where I hold the position of Radio Communications and Assist Chief. Also I am a paramedic supervisor at a rural fire company run ambulance company.

Fall of 2015,  KC3FVN, got his Technician license so he could join the fun; he just passed his General test Spring of 2016.  We use alot of simplex between us for communication.  He helps builds antennas for multiple bands and is the 'antenna man' for SOTA.

I rarely check eQSL, prefer paper QSLs from USA, eQSL ok for international due to postage costs. I really enjoy receving QSL cards and store them all in an album.

I am enjoying chasing NPOTA and look forward to continuing all this year 2016!  Some highlights are:

Gettysburg was the largest activation where we scored 397 QSOs, 26 of them being DX.  A few DX were worked on 5w. My second Gettysburg activation was my FIRST CW activation and KC3FVN's first activation as a General!

Allegheny and Johnston with W8JUZ a new record of 78 CW contacts in one day!

Allegheny with a new record of over 50 QSOs in one activation!

Benjamin Franklin, another new record of over 100 CW QSOs in one activation! This was the first time Benjamin Franklin was activated!

Weekend trip to MD, we activated five parks, totaling 375 QSOs between both KC3FVN and I!

DC trip activation including 5 parks, over 200 cw QSOs with my friend Kayla.

2nd EVER activation of Statue of Liberty!!!!

Seven activation trip PA/MD/WV with friend Doreen.

PICTURES OF NATIONAL PARKS ON THE AIR ACTIVATIONS!!!!!

The very last NPOTA activation was right back where we had begun!  Dec 31st, we went back to the exact same spot, hung an antenna and did our last activation.

I went back for my last solo trip to Appalachian Trail where I realized I had left my antenna the house and my spare one broke while setting up. I tore it apart, rebuilt an end fed and managed to squeak out enough QSOs to make a valid activation.

Last whirlwind trip MD/WV/PA with Doreen covering Catoctin, Monocary, Harper's Ferry, C&O Canal, Antietam, Eisenhower and Gettysburg.  We met up at Antietam with Stuart Younkin, WB3FBL, and got him on the air for his first ever activation!

Philadelphia trip with Nick, KC1DKY, Joe, N2CX and son Kevin, Peter, K0BAK to activation Gloria Dei Swedes. We went to Valley Forge on the way home.

Perhaps the most epic activation:  Statue of Liberty!  Joe N2CX, his soon Kevin and Doreen and I.
