Ham Member Lookups: 1399

Thats me on the left at Dayton in 2013! I got my ticket back in January, 1990. (ex KA1UVW, N1IBC) I enjoy DXing, homebrewing projects, ect.  I recently earned DXCC CW, WPX award, and WAS. I am a member and the President (or until they realize what a mistake they made, Hi Hi) of the Associated Radio Amatuers of Southern New England.. (W1AQ) in East Providence, RI, I am also an ARRL member. I opperate mostly CW, but will pick the mic up for a rare one and to talk with my buddy W1WV in NY!

My station consists of a Kenwood TS-590SG, a Kenwood TS590s (used as a second receiver for true duel receive and for portable operation), a panadapter using an HDR receiver and HDSDR software with a mod to the TS590S, an Ameritron ALS-600, 600 watt solid state HF amplifier, an Icom IC-251A 2 meter all mode with a Mirage 160 watt amplifier, a Drake TR4  HF tranceiver, RF Components KW tuner, a HyGain TH6DXX at 50', a Cushcraft D3W (12, 17, and 30m) rotatable dipole at 58, a 5 element 6 meter yagi at 54', a 10 element 2 meter yagi at 56', a Butternut HF2V 40/80m vertical, 160m inverted L and a beverage looking at EU.

Check out my "LIVE" on line logbook at https://www.hrdlog.net/log/N1IBC Check out my homebrew 4CX1500B I built years ago and wish I still had it. www.qsl.net/n1ibc. Thanks for your interest!

New Project! 8877/3CX1500A7 homebrew amp in progress! Here is a picture of the RF deck after the tuning of the tank and the input W7DS tuning board. The custom wound plate choke has a iron ferrite core which elliminates any chance of resonating above 200 KHz.  This amplifier will operate full QSK using a W8ZR control board and 2 HC1 vacuum relays. This amp also has solid state control of the cathode using a TIP33 transistor. This is the same unit used in the Alpha DX77 and is rated at 10 amps! This amp has a grid trip protection circuit that is adjustable from 40-150 ma. The position of the vacuum variable capacitors are monitored by two 1k, 10 turn pots driven by a 2.5:1 gear. These are wired to two digital meters and will act as turns counters. "Trumeter APM' fully programable, digital duel reading panel meters with high current alarm function will monitor grid and plate current. The blower is Dayton 75 CFM@ .6". The filiment is powered by a industrial rated, 100% duty cycle, solid state switching duel voltage supply. This unit supplies a regulated 5vdc up to 15 amps. It also provides 12 vdc to power various items within the RF deck. All metal work is custom as are the inductors in the tank circuit. A 20 amp, 3 deck RF band switch selects the taps on the tank as well as switches in C for 80 and 160M. Below is the HV supply that was bought for suplus and was modified. Using the old rectifiers, I added the filtering board and all control circuitry. Stay tuned!!! 4/18/16

The clublog lookup below is not accurate inregards to the number of worked and confirmed countries for myself. It only reflects info as KC1I and not my old call of N1IBC. It will find ANY call in my entire log.

My main operating station. Radios left to right. Kenwood TS590SG, TS590S (used for internet remote), Icom IC-251a 2 meter all mode driving a Mirage B1016 160w amplifier. HT's are Wouxun 2/440mhz, Boafeng DM5R Plus (POS!), and on the desk a Tytera MD-380 VHF DMR radio. Ameritron ALS-600 SS amplifier with ARI-500 auto band switching interface, RF Power Concepts antenna tuner. Using HDSDR for a panadapter with a RTLSDR reciever.

My tower, now with 2 and 6 meter yagis as well as the tribander and rotatable dipole. Also a fresh paint job for the winter.

(Below) The tuning cap at the base of the 160m L.

(Below) Homebrew 9:1 transformer for the beverage.

Here is my vintage Drake TR-4. Built in 1967, this radio sounds great. It is a blast to operate!

Here is a very inexspensive RTL SDR reciever with the upconverter built in. It works way better than I thought it ever would. Interfaced with my TS 590s for use with HDSDR as a panadapter, this has been a very helpful tool for chasing DX that is working split. I have HDSDR, HRD, and the 590 all working together.  Using  the Z10000B U buffer amp by Clifton Labs, this amp is installed in the 590 after the preamp....before the first IF. The SDR  direct samples at this point making full use of the 590's TR switching and bandpass filter block. K3IT was the first to perform this mod...All credits to him. Works fantastic!
