Hi! this is KC3FCF (Mike).  I have been interested in amateur radio since I was a boy in the mid 80's when I was at Boy Scout Camp at Camp Mountain Run in Penfield, PA.  One summer a guy named Jerry, I think, brought his HF radio to summer camp to teach us about amateur radio and to work with us on the Radio Merit Badge.

I spent several years using commercial radios with my job as an EMT from high school through college.  I had an aptitude for electronics and loved tearing apart broken AM/FM broadcast radios and other electonics to see if I could repair them.  This went by the wayside for a few years and in 2000 I built my first homebrew PC from scavanged parts.  Since then I have built or repaired probably 50 or more computers just for fun.

In 2015 after a bit of poking from a good friend of mine, I went and took my Technician exam and passed.  I have fallen in love again with Ham radio and have purchased several HT's and a mobile for the car.  I am looking forward to having a chance someday to have a nice ham shack with a variety of radios to reach all over.  I recently purchased an Icom ID51 plus and built a DVAP/Pi so I could get connected on D-Star.  I am a member of the Radio Association of Erie and am working on getting a new site for the club's D-Star repeater so we can have D-Star again in Erie County PA.
