Hello from Northeastern PA,
I am from a little town in Susquehanna County called Clifford. One of those little towns that if you blink you are through it (haha!)
I am new to amateur radio, I had never even heard of amateur radio until March of 2016 at which time I was given opportunity to say hello to someone over the air from a friends radio and thought WOW!! this is pretty cool!! I have to see what this is about!! I proceeded with a little bit of coaxing to take my test in May and got my Technician ticket and in June took my test and got my General ticket. I am currently admittedly slowly studying for my Extra class ticket but at this time just am not ready to take that test just yet, but it will come in due time.
This hobby has opened up so many new things for me. I have met some of the nicest, most kind, and congenially people in my experience so far. People are so willing to help and explain and just see that I am able to be on the air and connecting with people.
I have some great people behind me helping me with learning new things about this hobby as I go. It has been my hope that I may be able to make a difference in this hobby. I am in the process of learning about SKYWARN so that I can be of help with reporting weather if it is ever needed.
I have an ICOM 706MKII. I got this radio through a friend in my local radio club. I absolutely love this radio. When I first got it I was a bit afraid of it and thought I wouldn't be able to tune it ect. That fear has subsided and I am having a blast on HF. I also have fun on 2 meters talking regularly to many new friends.
I just recently got an ICOM 80AD DSTAR radio and have had it hooked up for 3 days now and am totally amazed at the contacts that I have been able to make with that.
Something else that I have done within the hobby that I am proud of is I am a Volunteer Examiner. I have graded 1 test to date and I don't know who watched the FCC website closer the young man or me waiting for him to get his call sign.
I am currently working on my daughter to try and encourage her to get her license. She is currently attending college to be an Early Childhood Education Teacher with a specialty in Special Education and I think that if she had her ticket and could share it with other children that would be awesome. So I will continue to work on that!! Wish me luck!
For now I will say 73 to all and I hope to talk to you somewhere on the air!!
