Greetings everybody, I'm Jeremy - KD0JHZ.  I received my Technician on 11/3/2009 and have upgraded to General since.  Now that the new Extra class pool is out there in the US, which includes much more about digital modes, I will be working on that over the next few months with any luck.

My interest in the hobby started back in Middle/High School.  I had a couple friends that were licensed and sparked an interest for me with the hobby, but I never had time or patience to learn code.  So, I put a CB in the car instead.  Several years later, a co-worker decided to teach a Technican class and asked if I would be interested.  A General class followed shortly after.

I spent the first couple years of my licensed HAM radio life in either a no-antenna townhouse, which I ran VHF/UHF from, or a steel/concrete cage of an apartment with no ability to use HF at all.  Finally, I moved to my current QTH that has a yard, plenty of trees, no landlords, great neighbors and no Associations to deal with.  Needless to say, I am a much happier HAM now

I've recently been bit by the HF bug, more specifically JT-65, since I can operate it from other parts of my house than just my shack in the basement.  I can even operate from my iPad remotely!

I am also a member of the local hobby club (ICARC - Iowa City Amateur Radio Club), and a less active member of the local ARES group in Johnson County Iowa.

Radio Equipment:

- Yaesu FT-60R 2M/70CM HT (first and favorite radio)

-Yaesu FT-3000DX.  After the FT-450D got fried, I decided it was time to buy a nice rig for myself.  I can't say enough nice things about this rig, especially with USB interface and the ability to run a PanAdaptor out.

- Yaesu FT-450D HF/6m radio (base/portable HF rig).  I have a pelican case for this one and occasionally travel with it or work portable.  When the radio is home, I use it exclusively for digital (PSK and JT65), which allows me to just leave it trimmed out for digital all the time. (This rig is currently down for repairs.  Took a lightning surge)

- Kenwood TS-570D HF 100w radio.  I use this as my main rig at home and second HF rig, with the FT-450D being the first.  I use this one for SSB Phone, mostly because it is much easier to use/not all menu driven and has a much bigger tuning knob.

- Yaesu FT-250R 2M HT (was used mobile in a car for a while, now my work backpack radio)

- Yaesu FT-2900 2M Mobile w/75watt output (base VHF rig)

- Yaesu FT-2800 2M Mobile w/55watt output (mobile VHF rig in the car)

- Beofang UV-5Rv2+ (currently tied to a mobilinkd BT TNC and a mobile phone as an APRS beacon in the car)

- SDR Stick/Raspberry Pi2 used as an APRS Receive only gateway at home.

- SignalLink USB (one on the TS-570D and one on the FT-450D)

Antennas:

- G5RV jr. in an inverted V.  Peak is at about 30' in a tree.  This one radiates East/West at the moment.

- MFJ 4020T, 20 meter dipole set on a 29' military aluminum section mast for portable and home use.

- 20m double bazooka wire dipole.  Currently wrapped around my deck for use as a bad weather receive antenna.

- 2m vertical for the home station/APRS receive

- 4' 2m vertical on the car for mobile use

I use eQSL and LOTW, but prefer LOTW.  Will also take paper QSL's, now that I finally got around to having some printed.  If you send one, I will send one back, it just may take a while.

73, KD0JHZ
