Greetings All,

In Davenport, IA in May of 2013 I became a Technician Class Operator smiley

In Milan, IL on 6-13-2015, I sucessfully upgraded to a General Class Operator smiley

You know whats coming next....after reading Bible cover to cover.

When I was young I enjoyed the CB radio, thought that some day when I got older I would like to be a Ham, never did get around to it. Finally in 2013 I did, now I think to myself why did I wait sooooo long? I am ramping up, I set up a Diamond X50a dual band ground plane in a bedroom which feeds my kitchen base 2m/70cm Icom 2730, and now have a Diamond X200a on roof feeding the shack. I work full time at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics maintaining and repairing Radiology Equipment, been there since Oct of 1985 this past Oct was 31 years, which is hard to fathom. I have tried echolink, kinda cool.Worked the overnight shift on Field Day 2014 and made my very first HF contact on 40m with the club K7LED. My first VHF contact was with K9TND Bob both of which was an equal thrill. Field Day 2015 I did the overnight shift again,a lot less rain. Wanna know something kind of cool? I again made contact with the same club, call sign  K7LED, the following year, who would of thought right? I hung a double Bazooka 10 meter di-pole in the garage attic oriented North/South and made my first  10 meter contact with Sam KC5BTX in Central Texas, and at the same time spoke with Steve KG5CIX for about 5 minutes, the very next day I momentarily worked my first country, Marilyn  KP4MAS in San German, Puerto Rico...remember the excitement of YOUR first country???  I upgraded from an Icom 746 to an Icom 7410 and am pleased with it as well. I recently installed a ZeroFive 43' vertical 10m-160m which I am pleased with its performace so far, just ordered an external antenna tuner (Palstar AT2K) so I can grab 80M and 160M, my internal radio auto tuner wont quite grab em. I like D-Star as well, typically I hang out on reflector 053A and 061B as home base, 061B is the Trucker, Travelers, and RVers reflector, I can be found there during day or late nights sometimes. I just ordered my first box of QSL cards, single color , basic info with a outline of Iowa on it. Once I get some  pics lined up I will add them here and have some nice colored QSL cards printed up. Needed some cards quick as I got involved with Triple H late night net on 7.190 40M, just started my WAS. Well it got too late at night to keep that pace up, have not worked the WAS lately. Iowa City just put up a DMR repeater, I picked up the MD-380, the Iowa Talk Group is 3119, been playing around with that.

I can be found frequently on repeaters at varying hours of the day and night.

Iowa City, IA         146.850

Coralville, Ia          444.750  (linked to others in central, west and southern Iowa)

Cedar Rapids, IA   146.745

DMR  Iowa talk group 3119

Hope to work you soon.

73's

Joe
