First licensed in May 1991. Off the air, everyone calls me David, my middle name.  On the air, either John or David will do.

I would appreciate your contact confirmed through the ARRL LotW. I upload to LotW often.  Please, NO Bureau!

I enjoy operating HF SSB/PSK/JT, VHF/UHF SSB/FM, and Satellites.  Chasing DX and grid squares is a lot of fun.  I recently put a Yaesu FT-991 on the air and am enjoying learning about its capabilities.

Current Gear:
  • Yaesu FT-991 and an 80 meter horizontal loop at about 30 feet.
    • Planning to put up my 70 centimeter Cushcraft 424B and a homebrew 2 meter antenna for SSB.
    • Arrow 146/437-10BP for SO-50 and AO-85 satellites.
  • Yaesu FT-5100 and a Comet GP1 for local 2 meter and 70 centimeter FM.
  • Alinco DR-110, an AEA PK88, and a homebrew turnstile antenna for ISS and PSAT.
  • Kenwood TS-430S HF backup.
  • Kenwood TR-851A 70cm SSB backup.

Contests:

2017 Winter Field Day:
Due to my experiences with NPOTA activations, I decided to operate Winter Field Day from an outdoor/remote location and returned to Little River Canyon National Preserve. I operated Saturday afternoon on SSB and Sunday morning on PSK31 using battery power with 10w peak output from my Yaesu FT-991 to 20 and 40 meter dipoles.
