A life-long radio enthusiast, Matt became involved with Amateur Radio in late 2002 after learning about a regional UHF radio link project. In 2004, he began volunteering as an amateur radio operator, supporting emergency communications at the Louisiana Governor's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (GOHSEP RACES). During Hurricane Katrina, Matt and other amateur radio operators were instrumental in relaying messages to assist with rescue and operational activities in New Orleans and surrounding areas. Currently Matt serves as the Chairman/State Frequency Coordinator for the Louisiana Council of Amateur Radio Clubs and the Assistant ARRL Section Manager for the Louisiana Section.

In addition to volunteering for amateur radio, Matt is active with the Louisiana Steam Train Association, assisting in the operation of Historic Steam Locomotive SP-745. Matt currently works in the telecommunications industry, providing technical service support for wireless data networks and commercial broadcasting facilities.
