I got interested in emergency communications after the flood that swept through our community in 2013. I'm a member of a local emergency preparedness organization that we formed in the aftermath called Lyons Prepared (lyonsprepared.com). With emergency preparedness in mind, I also got my Technician license in 2015, and a couple of us started an informal local net, Lyons Area Amateur Radio Net (laarn.net). I upgraded to General in June 2017.

I'm a member of the Longmont Amateur Radio Club (LARC, w0eno.org), as well as Boulder & Broomfield Counties Amateur Radio Emergency Services (BCARES).

For VHF/UHF, I use a Kenwood RC-D710 with a Diamond X50A in my shack; a Kenwood TM-V71A with a Comet-NCG CA-2x4SR antenna in my car; and a Kenwood TH-D74A with a Comet HT-224 for my HT.

I'm quite excited about D-STAR, and am slowly learning my way around that world with the help of a DVMEGA-DUAL, a Raspberry Pi, and DStar Commander. I'm also learning DMR, and use a Connect Systems CS760 with a SharkRF openSPOT for that. I love learning new things!
