Licensed ham since September 2001, upgraded to General in early 2008, and again to Extra in late 2008.  Still somewhat active in local special events (communications for cycling events, Special Olympics).  I have been a part of the communications team for the Virginia Special Olympics Summer Games in Richmond every year since 2008, am on the SOVA Communications Committee, and have been an event net control since 2014.

I particularly enjoy HF QRP SSB and PSK31 plus mountaintop VHF SSB work.  My primary station consists of a Yaesu FT-817ND QRP rig, occasionally paired with a 35-watt amplifier for VHF operation.  I have an Icom ID-880H at home.  In the car, I run an Icom ID-5100H on D-STAR, and my portables are an Icom ID-51A, an Icom T-70A, and a Tytera MD-380.

The best places to find me on the radio are on the W4RAT VHF repeater (146.880, PL 74.4) in Richmond or the W4VB repeater system (145.330, PL 131.8) in Norfolk.  I'm also sometimes on D-STAR via the W4FJ repeater system in Richmond or the W4HPT system in Hampton.  Those repeaters are connected to REF062C during weekdays.

I live in the southern end of the City of Richmond.
