Ham Member Lookups: 410

Like most people I was introduced to radio at a young age. It was in the 3rd grade at Long Beach Miss around 1965 when I learned about radios and antennas. It might have been ham or cb. All I know is the amp was hot.

Fast forward a few years and I had the opportunity to take Electronics in Trade school my Junior and Senior year.

I joined the National Guard while in school and a few years later joined the Marines. Going in open  contract I'd expected to have the same MOS as in the Guard, TOW Gunner. But my electronics paid off and I was assigned a MOS in Electronics. After completing BEC, TETC and FDLC at 29 Palms my next school was at Ft Gordon Georgia for Crypto maintenance.

My final duty station was the 1st FSSG, 1st Maint Bn, ELMACO at Camp Pendleton.

My electronics paid off again in the civilian world as I went to work for GTE and gained a new skill set, Pole Climbing. GTE left for Texas but I stayed and went to work for a commercial Radio Shop. A few years later, and much gained experience, found me working for the Oklahoma Department of Public Safety as a Radio Maintenance Technician.

As a Senior Radio Tech with most of the western half of Oklahoma as my responsibility , I was medically retired after a fall at a tower base.

I'm now employed at Ft Sill as a Field Service Engineer.

After all the years in electronics I got my Ham license August 2014 and upgraded to general in March 2015.

Main radio is a FT-991 with a FT-857D in the truck.

Also have an IC-5100 and 51A+ for DStar through a Dual Band DVMEGA.
And added DMR via a Tytera MD-380.

Antenna is a Alpha Moto with 30 foot of wire off the tip for the base and Yaesu ATAS-120A mobile.
Have added an end fed HF Match Box antenna from EARC and a dualband J-pole antenna
designed by Ed Fong, WB6IQN
