I am having a great time getting started as a relatively new HAM.  Due to encouragement from my friend and father-in-law Gary KT7AZ and my long standing curiosity and interest in all things electrical, I became a licensed tech in 2014.  At the time, my primary focus was to add a VHF/UHF radio to my off road vehicle (2007 Toyota FJC) to communicate with other drivers on 4WD trips and to have some form of emergency communication for solo outings.  The ICOM ID-880H was my choice for that radio, and I liked it so much that I added another one to my regular vehicle.  This radio turned out to be a good choice also because it gave me an introduction to D-star.

I am now a licensed general and beginning to do more with HF on 20/40m SSB and just starting with PSK31. Here's a picture of my minimalist shack which consists of an IC-756PRO and Alinco EDX-1 tuner that drives an OCF dipole mounted about 25' up in the pine trees in my front yard.  I recently added the SignaLink USB, which has cleaned up my PSK31 signal.  I also have D-star capability through a blue DV-dongle that is hiding somewhere in my equipment rack.

Here's a zoom-in of my equipment rack.
