First licensed as a tech in November of 2014 and passed the General exam in August of 2017, I’m a latecomer to ham radio. It has been something I wanted to do for a long time but never had time once I started working. I retired in 2011 so I didn’t have any more excuses for not getting my license.

Prior active duty Army (1970-1973) with a tour in Vietnam (Americal and 1st Cav Divisions) then the balance of my active duty was spent in West Germany assigned to a support Battalion of the 7th Army.

Originally from Maryland, I worked for 37 years in the Washington DC area as a DoD civilian that included a four-year assignment in the late 90’s to Hawaii. I returned to the DC area in 2000 to finish out my career.

I currently reside in Nevada, about 25 miles Northwest of Reno, but may be moving in 2018/19 to Colorado.

My current shack consists of an Icom IC-7300 (currently barefoot) with an LDG AT100 Pro II autotuner. My antenna is a G5RV Jr.

I’m mostly working digital modes (FT8) for now, using WSJT-X with JT-Alert. Eventually, I’ll work my way into voice in the near future.

My VHF/UHF equipment consists of a Connect Systems CS-800D dual band DMR/analog mobile radio, a Connect Systems CS-750 DMR, a Tytera MD-380 DMR, an Anytone  AT-D868UV DMR/Analog, and an Icom IC-T90A Tri-band. I also have a couple of older Icom VHF handhelds. I live far enough out from the DMR Repeaters in Reno that I use a SharkRF Open spot to use DMR from the house.

I QSL using QRZ, LoTW, and eQSL. LoTW is preferred. I use QRZ as my logbook and upload to LoTW after every session.  I upload to eQSL once a week, usually on Saturday afternoon.

I will be also using QSL cards in the near future but need to get my XYL (who has much better graphics skills than me) to design one for me.
